Alexzander Richard Hotchkiss

Funny, sweet, and kind, Alexzander Hotchkiss always had a smile on his face. Called to do his best to make everyone feel better, Alex was a heart-centered man who thought of others first. A devoted son, brother, and friend, Alex was both humble and generous. Alex inspired others in countless ways and though our days with him were far too few, the power of his life will long fuel our hearts and lives. 1989 was a year of great promise in our nation as well as the world. As the Berlin Wall fell and the Cold War drew to an official end, students protested oppression in China's Tiananmen Square, and America freed the people of Panama from the tyranny of dictatorship, freedom rang from every corner of the globe. Nowhere was there more hope than in West Michigan as Alisa Stamp and Richard Hotchkiss welcomed their son Alexzander into their hearts and home on September 19th. Alex spent his early years in Alamo where he enjoyed the good company of his older sister Amber. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when covered in dirt. Alex was a good-natured kid whose easy demeanor made him a delight to be around. While he loved exploring the outdoors and being active, he rarely got himself in trouble. He was a sweet boy who relished in inspiring smiles and laughter. Much like his parents who both worked in customer service, Alex was a natural people person who easily made others feel comfortable in his presence. In 5th grade, he moved to Mottville and began attending White Pigeon schools. Naturally athletic, Alex enjoyed wrestling and playing football during his high school years. He loved country music and often played and sang the classics of Johnny Cash and George Jones. Go carts and golf carts often proved a good time with Alex behind the wheel. He loved to bike ride and do just about anything outdoors. A perfect day for Alex was any day spent with the people he loved. Whether hanging out outside, pulling pranks and telling jokes, singing karaoke with his mom at the Time Out Lounge, drawing, or playing video games, Alex always ensured a good time. Alex worked as a supervisor for the Target Distribution Center for five years, and he was especially proud of the home he bought last September. He loved to throw barbeques and host bonfires in the backyard. His dog was his true pal. Alex called him his "kid" and showered him with affection. While Alex was a good friend to many, and it would be difficult for anyone who knew him to find anything bad to say about him, his friendship with his sister Amber was his best. Only 18 months apart in age, Amber and Alex were always each other's best friend. They got each other in ways no one else did and shared many wonderful memories including lots and lots of Facetime. Every good thing was even better and no hard time couldn't be lightened with Alex around. Loveable and happy, Alex was a gift in so many ways. Without a doubt, the world is uncomfortably quiet in the absence of Alex's vibrant spirit. While it is beyond words to imagine life without his steadfast presence, may we find comfort in our many memories of the good man we were privileged to know. As we reminisce about his good nature, we will also remember his unwavering devotion and love for his family and friends. Each time we cheer on the Wolverines, hear Johnny Cash sing, gather around a bonfire, share a smile, or enjoy the outdoors, we celebrate Alex's legacy and the gratitude we have for the time we shared with him. In so doing, Alex's spirit will continue to inspire others as he so inspired us. Alexzander Hotchkiss "Alex" of East Leroy, passed away July 14, 2018.
