Ellen Norrene Uithoven

Uithoven, Ellen Formerly Ellen Palmer Ellen Uithoven, age 89, of Vicksburg, passed away with family by her side on September 9, 2018. Ellen was born on December 27, 1928 to Earl & Helen Hitchcock. Visit with her family and friends on Friday, September 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Vicksburg United Methodist Church; 217 S. Main St. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Ellen's family includes her children: Rod Palmer, Rick (Wendy) Palmer, Randey (Karen) Palmer; six grandchildren: Ann (Stephen) Jacobs, Sean (Jennifer Priest) Palmer, Emily (Doug) Lovell, Jesse (Jennifer) Palmer, Stacy (Andrew) Wood and Maddie Eves; seventeen great grandchildren as well as three nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband Alfred Burton Palmer, her second husband Robert Uithoven and her siblings: William and Delores. Ellen graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and received an Associates Degree from KVCC. She enjoyed theater beginning by acting in high school plays. She was in the first production the Barn Theater ever put on. She was also in several productions at the Civic. Ellen directed plays at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Ellen had several jobs over the years. She began working for Michigan Bell as a telephone operator and she also worked as a mail carrier for the post office and worked in food service at Upjohn and KVCC. She enjoyed cake decorating and made many wedding cakes. She was a worthy matron of the Eastern Star, Lotus Lily chapter. Ellen raised Labrador retrievers and had several show dogs. Ellen loved all her family dearly and will be greatly missed.
