Margaret McClish

Margaret May McClish, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, June 27th, 2020 at the age of 90. Margaret was born on January 21st, 1930 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was the daughter of Lewis and Helen (Griffin) Crawford. Margaret went through Portage schools and graduated with the Portage High Class of 1948. Margaret was married 60 years to her high school sweetheart Maurice “Maury” McClish. They shared a long and happy marriage together and she delighted in many years of family gatherings at their home on Austin Lake. During their retirement years, Margaret and Maury enjoyed many trips throughout the country in their RV camper, and spent many winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama enjoying the sun, the beach, and their fellow snowbird friends. Margaret also liked to collect cranberry glass, glass paper weights, and Hummel figurines, and had a story for every single one. In recent years, after the passing of her beloved husband, Margaret took comfort in the presence of family and friends, and especially enjoyed going on picnics to the park and visiting with her much loved little dog Bailey. Margaret is survived by her three children: Mike (Doris) McClish, of Vicksburg; Matt McClish, of Vicksburg; Mary (Robert) Ryan, of Delton; five grandchildren: Ben (Lisa) McClish, of Vicksburg; Maria (Tony) Wharton, of Vicksburg; Liam (Margo) McClish, of TN; Thomas McClish, of IN; and Michelle McClish, of IL; and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother: Max Crawford, of KY. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; brother, David Crawford; and sister, Louise Heller. Margaret will be remembered as a loving, social, and caring person. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who always gave freely of her time and love to family and friends. In particular she was the quintessential doting grandmother, always ready to smother her grandkids and great-grandkids with hugs, and was a constant and beaming presence at concerts, recitals, and graduations. She will be fiercely missed but not forgotten. A memorial service for Margaret will be held at a later date, but in the meantime please feel free to visit her webpage at www.mccowensecord.com to light a candle or leave a memory. The McClish family is being cared for by the McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, Rupert-Durham Chapel, 409 South Main Street Vicksburg, MI, 49097.
