Trevor Jon Jennings

“Everyone loves Trevor.” A phrase spoken by all who met Trevor Jon Jennings because he would truly do anything for anyone in need. His kind personality and heart of gold will always be cherished and remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Everyone who knew Trevor described him as a kind, honest, laid-back, happy young man. Trevor leaves this world far too soon, but his family members and countless friends will treasure him and the memories he leaves behind forever. The 90s were a time of increased awareness in multiculturism. Movements such as grunge, the rave scene, and hip hop spread around the world to young people. AOL Instant Messenger launched in 1997 and gained 53 million users in less than ten years. Furbies were the hot toy of the decade, even though some individuals were convinced that the toy was spying on people with its capabilities to repeat phrases it heard. For parents, Dexter William Jennings & Fawn Marie (Hoffman) Jennings, September 2, 1993, was the most important date of the decade as they had just welcomed their son, Trevor Jon Jennings. Dexter worked for Pfizer as a welder and Fawn was a stay-at-home mom. Trevor was born in Kalamazoo, MI and raised in Vicksburg with his sister, Marissa. As a child Trevor loved being outdoors and enjoyed activities such as fishing, hunting, and playing in the backyard with his sister. Marissa and Trevor were inseparable and had an incredibly close bond their entire life. The pair used to chase the family chickens, ride bikes, and build forts. Trevor also travelled with his grandparents a lot—he truly loved spending time with them. From a very early age, Trevor took an interest in vehicles. When he was thirteen years old, he went to Kodiak Alaska to go commercial fishing with his aunt and uncle, Constance & Gordon. Trevor continued to take this trip for three summers and with his earnings bought his first 1977 Ford Bronco at the age of fourteen. You could always find Trevor in the garage or the barn working on vehicles. As a kid Trevor played soccer for a year, and basketball for two years. Trevor graduated in 2011 from Vicksburg High School. The town of Vicksburg always held a special spot in Trevor’s heart. He loved the small town feel and the closeness of everybody who resided there. After high school Trevor attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College for two years where he earned his associates degree in machine tool. The degree truly fit his personality and allowed him to do what he loved. Anything involving mechanical work was right up Trevor’s alley. He loved being in the shop surrounded by his friends all working on four wheelers, three wheelers, cars, trucks…. really anything with a motor! Trevor started at FEMA as an intern and had an instant connection with the company. He spent the next nine years there as a machinist. Family meant everything to Trevor. He loved the closeness of his family and how everyone was always open and interactive with each other. Trevor especially enjoyed travelling on vacations, going to get ice cream, and sharing stories around a campfire—all spent with his family and many friends. Another passion of Trevor’s was his love for animals, in particular dogs. One dog captured the heart of Trevor while he was attending a bachelor party in Tennessee. A mother dog led the group of friends to a hole with her puppies inside. Each of the six young men took a puppy, and Trevor made an instant connection with his, Gunner. From that moment on, Gunner and Trevor were inseparable and whenever you saw one, you knew the other was surely close by. Since Trevor rescued Gunner from Tennessee, he was a part of the Tennessee Mutt Puppies and he had a connection with Love of Paws, a dog rescue located in Tennessee. With a love for the Ford Bronco, Trevor was involved in a couple of different Bronco organizations and travelled to Tennessee and Colorado for different Bronco events. Many knew you could often find Trevor at Silver Lake riding the dunes with his friends in his Bronco. Friday nights for Trevor were filled with quality time spent having dinner with his group of friends; and, of course, riding three wheelers, four wheelers, and RZRs was always in the cards when he was with his buddies. Trevor made an instant connection with everyone that he encountered. His personality and big smile coupled with his huge heart made him seem like a big teddy bear that everyone wanted to be around. A very laid-back and go with the flow guy, it took a lot to get Trevor worked up. In fact, a phrase he often used was, “I’m fine.” During his stay at the hospital even the nurses commented that “everyone loves Trevor.” Trevor lived life to the fullest. In his short 27 years he got a lot more out of life than most people. The novel The Art of Racing in the Rain is a story about a racecar driver, Denny, and his beloved dog, Enzo. A quote from this book perfectly captures the nature of Trevor Jennings: “you should shine with all of your light all the time.” Trevor’s light shone bright in everyone’s life and will forever be cherished by everybody who knew and loved him. Left to cherish Trevor’s loving memory are his parents: Dexter and Fawn (Hoffman) Jennings; sister: Marissa (Michael) Coonfer; grandparents: Jon & Bev Hoffman and Dexter & Jan Jennings; dog: Gunner; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends In accordance with Trevor’s wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Rim and Rail, 343 West Prairie Street, Vicksburg, MI 49097 at 1:00 p.m. with Ken Hovencamp officiating.
